It was a busy one for her, starting with surgery for Haglund’s Deformity. If you or someone you know suffers from this debilitating condition, you can learn all about it on this episode of the podcast.

Tina shared some updates on the first part of the year in episode 399 of the podcast. That was back in May, and since then, while her running was curtailed by her surgery and ongoing recovery, she hasn’t cut back on other activities.

Most of all, she’s been concentrating on environmental action, which will continue to be her focus going forward. That included attending Climate Week NYC, where she co-hosted a mindfulness run with Imagine5.

In October, she worked with Chicago Event Management on their sustainability initiatives at the Chicago Marathon, which this year included collecting can carriers from the Shamrock Shuffle and Chicago 13.1 and having them made into commemorative keychains for the marathon. She hosted a plogging run after the marathon, as well as during the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and New York City Marathon weekends.

Throughout all of the year, Tina has been working behind the scenes as the Sustainability Director for the 2025 World Athletics Road Running Championships in San Diego. One of the initiatives she’s hoping to put in place is replacing the typical finishers’ medals handed out at races with ones made of local wood, designed by local artist, Koy Suntichotinun. She’s also working closely with Garden 31, a San Diego nonprofit that is one of the official charities of the Championships. While the races are, indeed, championships, they are also open to “regular” runners, and anyone who registers for their Green Bib option will be supporting WARRC’s environmental outreach. For the next couple of weeks though, Tina is taking a break and encourages everyone to do the same: “I want to remind you to take some time to do something for you, to say ‘No,’ and be thoughtful with your own life and journey. And I hope you take some time to rest, to read a book, and do what feels right for you in your heart.”
